The new Wave HCL is the result of years of development in durable and tough state-of-the-art high-performance Wave/Bump sails. The Wave HCL incorporates our patent-applied-for Hansen Compliant Leech (HCL) technology which allows a sail to compliantly adjust both foil shape and twist automatically according to wind pressure and sheeting angle. The result is an extremely versatile sail with extended range that not only excels in light air acceleration, power and pointing but also overpowered gust response and handling. Sizes are adjusted to simplify quiver building with 15% spacing starting at 3.2 and extending to a light wind 6.3 wave sail while preserving the popular 4.6 and 5.6 sizes. The Wave HCL is designed to have a powerful yet soft, springy feel and is recommended for use with RDM masts.

Features include:

1. Increased overall static shape and tighter leech for better light wind VMG performance.
2. 3 specifically-tuned HCL elastic inserts for optimal leech compliance over a wide range of conditions.
3. Larger head with free-pivoting head battens for better off-wind angle and drive.
4. Straight leech planform for optimal upwind drive and maximized area.
5. Recessed foot profile for easier handling in transitions and aggressive freestyle moves.
6. Retractable sail storage strap.

Improvements for 2008 include:

1. HCL inserts have a higher compliance frequency for a tighter leech and quicker gust response.
2. Revised luff curve for easier rigging and improved RDM mast set-up.
3. Revised Tack Pulley position for easier downhaul.

Construction is extremely durable with 100% fully glued and reinforced seams. The luff is two piece with vertical Dacron and warp X-Ply sections for locked-in shape, flexibility and strength. The sail body is aramid warp X-Ply in the head, foot and leech framing a small-grid X-ply center. A 3-piece window is constructed of large grid X-ply with a PVC center for extra durability and clarity. All batten pockets, reinforcing patches and plys are symmetrical on both sides of the sail to minimize port/starboard variations. Battens are composite surf-durable constructions with flex and stiffness specifically designed for each location in the sail. Batten adjustment is controlled by internal-screw tensioners.

Available in red, white or black, in X-Ply with a PVC window, or with monofilm construction via special order. Monofilm option is $100 extra.
