2008 Hansen Sail Changes

by Bill Hansen

Following are the revisions to the sails for '08 orders. It is our intent to update the sails on an incremental basis as the data from regular use is collected, rather than introducing 'all-new' models every year. We believe that our sails are highly evolved design-wise from many years of experience and the planned obsolescence of model years is a disservice to our customers. This enables sailors to build and maintain a consistent quiver over a period of time.

Formula HCL

  1. Black/White color combination to reduce soiling discoloration from carbon mast dust and during rigging. White upper sleeve is maintained to prevent mast failures from overheating.
  2. Lower HCL inserts have a higher compliance frequency for a tighter leech and quicker gust response.
  3. Revised HCL front reinforcing.
  4. Revised lower profiles for a flatter entry and improved upwind VMG.
  5. Revised cam offsets for easier rigging.
  6. Revised tack construction.

Slalom HCL

  4. Revised luff curve and lower profiles for better acceleration and handling.
  5. Revised upper leech profile
  6. Revised foot/clew outline for easier jibing.
  7. Revised cam offsets for easier rigging.

Freerace HCL

  1. Lower HCL inserts have a higher compliance frequency for a tighter leech and quicker gust response.
  2. Revised HCL front reinforcing.
  3. Revised cam offsets for easier rigging.
  4. Revised Tack Pulley position for easier downhaul.
  5. Revised luff curve.

Wave HCL

  1. HCL inserts have a higher compliance frequency for a tighter leech and quicker gust response.
  2. Revised luff curve for easier rigging and improved RDM mast set-up.
  3. Revised Tack Pulley position for easier downhaul.

Adjustable Caps

On sails where a variety of mast lengths may be needed, we have developed a new system of alternative fixed-length head cap extensions which are very easily installed/removed/replaced as need be.
